Yesterday was a very strange day for me.

I left home a little late, so I started walking straight to the bus stop. The street was already busy, full of people going to work or school. I tried to walk fast, but a man across the street started waving at me. I thought he needed help, so I waved back. Then I realized he was waving at someone behind me. Very embarrassing. Wrong person, wrong moment.

When I reached the corner, I checked the time and saw that my bus was coming. I tried to turn quickly, but I almost crashed into a woman trying to carry three heavy bags at the same time. One of the bags fell, and oranges rolled everywhere. We both laughed while trying to find them before they escaped into the road.

After helping her, I ran to the bus stop, but of course, the bus had already left. I looked for another stop nearby, hoping I could catch the next one. While walking, I saw a small dog sitting alone. I thought it was lost, so I tried to help it. But then a boy shouted from across the street, “That’s my dog!” He picked it up and walked away like nothing happened.

Finally, I found another bus stop. I waited for ten minutes, but then I realized I was at the wrong stop. I had been reading the sign upside down. At that point, I just started laughing. It was one of those days when everything goes wrong, but in a funny way.

In the end, I decided to walk to work. It took longer, but I enjoyed the fresh air, and I didn’t have to chase any more oranges or dogs. When I arrived, my coworkers asked why I was late. I just said, “Long story.”
And honestly, it really was.

Ayer fue un día muy extraño para mí.

Salí de casa un poco tarde, así que empecé a caminar recto hacia la parada del autobús. La calle ya estaba muy ocupada, llena de gente que iba al trabajo o a la escuela. Intenté caminar rápido, pero un hombre al otro lado de la calle empezó a saludarme con la mano. Pensé que necesitaba ayuda, así que le saludé también. Luego me di cuenta de que estaba saludando a alguien detrás de mí. Muy vergonzoso. Persona equivocada, momento equivocado.

Cuando llegué a la esquina, miré la hora y vi que mi autobús estaba llegando. Intenté girar rápido, pero casi choqué con una mujer que intentaba llevar tres bolsas pesadas al mismo tiempo. Una de las bolsas cayó y las naranjas rodaron por todas partes. Los dos nos reímos mientras intentábamos encontrarlas antes de que se fueran a la carretera.

Después de ayudarla, corrí a la parada, pero por supuesto, el autobús ya se había ido. Busqué otra parada cercana, esperando poder tomar el siguiente. Mientras caminaba, vi un perrito sentado solo. Pensé que estaba perdido, así que intenté ayudarlo. Pero un niño gritó desde el otro lado de la calle: “¡Ese es mi perro!” Lo recogió y se fue como si nada.

Finalmente, encontré otra parada. Esperé diez minutos, pero luego me di cuenta de que estaba en la parada equivocada. Había leído el cartel al revés. En ese momento, solo empecé a reír. Era uno de esos días en los que todo sale mal, pero de una forma graciosa.

Al final, decidí caminar hasta el trabajo. Tardé más, pero disfruté del aire fresco y no tuve que perseguir más naranjas ni perros. Cuando llegué, mis compañeros me preguntaron por qué llegué tarde. Solo dije: “Larga historia”.
Y sinceramente, lo era.

Significa “uno más”.
Siempre va con singular.

• another coffee = otro café (uno más)

• another idea = otra idea (una más)

OTHER

Significa “otro(s)” o “más / adicionales”.
Puede ir con singular o plural.

OTHER + singular

Significa otro diferente.

• other day = otro día (distinto)

OTHER + plural

Puede significar dos cosas:

1. otros diferentes

2. más / adicionales (no necesariamente distintos)

Ejemplos:

• other books = otros libros / más libros

• other people = otras personas / más personas

El contexto te dice cuál de los dos sentidos es.

THE OTHER

Significa “el otro / los otros” (los que faltan, los conocidos).

AT – IN – ON: Explicación Clara Comparada con el Español

La clave es esta:

• AT = punto exacto (lugar o tiempo)

• IN = dentro / en el interior / períodos largos

• ON = sobre / encima / días y fechas

Vamos por partes, comparando siempre con el español.

1. AT = “en / a” (punto exacto)

AT se usa para:

• Lugares muy concretos

• Momentos exactos del tiempo

• Direcciones precisas

Lugar (punto exacto)

• at home → en casa

• at the bus stop → en la parada

• at the airport → en el aeropuerto

• at school → en el colegio

En español usamos en.
